Curriculum Vitae
APPROACH TO WORK
I have a holistic approach to my work. My activities in international politics, trade and industry have been permeated by my commitments to social and humanitarian issues. Speaking German, English, Spanish and French has enabled me to gain intercultural competence. I support the Erika-Mann basic school in Berlin, as well as working with the Art of Living Foundation, where I deepened my experience in international crisis management. Before being a member of the European Parliament (1994-2009) I ran my own IT-consultancy (Philtech) and obtained a degree of educational science at the University of Hannover and a MA in philosophy and further education.
PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT
A) Representation of CCIA (Computer & Communications Industry Associaton) in Brussels. 11 Rond Point Schuman - Suite 417, 1040 Brussels - +32 2 256 7592 - emann@ccianet.org - ccianet.org
B) Partner in a firm which will start operating in late spring in Brussels, Washington, Tokyo and Germany and which is called ENIN. Ennin was a Chinese philosopher, who crossed borders in many ways. Ennin was Japanese Buddhists who studied in China in the ninth century. He wrote a diary while we crossed China as a Buddhist pilgrim for nine and a half years.. A translation into English is done by Professor Edwin O. Reischauer of Harward University “Ennin’s Diary: The Record of a Pilgrimage to China in Search of the Law.” (Ronald Press, New York, 1955). In many ways he was a true searcher and observer of Chinese culture and for us he is a Leitfigur to achieve the impossible. Crossing borders and managing complex environments is our strength.
C) Chair of an evaluation group for the European Commission and the European Investment Bank. This group evaluates the so called Risk-Sharing-Facility-Fund which is offers access to loans for companies and research based entities which want to enter the market with a product or service which carries a certain risk.
