Curvy cucumber
Wednesday, 12th November 2008 marked an important day for Marianne Fischer-Boel in her battle against Brussels-bashing. If there is one issue which had become a symbol for both Eurosceptics and the tabloid press of ‘over-regulation’ from Brussels, it was the curvy cucumber. So she proposes to get rid of the curvy cucumber. Now this is somehow a funny idea. The Commission invents a regulation which, more or less everyone is defending over all the years (internal market bla, bla, bla) and then, years after, the Commission propose to get rid of the very same regulation with the argument, it is essentially not needed. Does this really make sense?
